ZAGREB, Nov 8 (Hina) - Two Croatian police officers have received special awards for their work in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Officers Kornelia Jakupec and Davor Javorski, who joined UNMIK in May, were presented with UN awards at a ceremony in Pristina on Tuesday.

The chief of the international police force, Kai Vittrup of Denmark, said that the role of the Croatian police officers in the mission was crucial because they fully understood the situation in the province.

Vittrup said he wanted the Croatian officers to stay with the mission for as long as possible.

The award-giving ceremony was attended by a Croatian Interior Ministry delegation led by the head of the Department for Peace-Keeping Missions, Marko Kricancic, and the Croatian Ambassador to Belgrade, Tomislav Stanicic.

During the visit, the Croatian delegation met Lawrence Rossin, deputy to the UN special envoy to Kosovo and former US ambassador to Croatia, who said that Croatia should increase the number of its police officers in Kosovo as well as in peace-keeping missions round the world.
