TALLINN, Nov 8 (Hina) - Croatia and Slovenia are friendly countries which have a lot in common, but the issue of Savudrija Bay, the only outstanding Croatia-Slovenia issue, is not for the European Union and the European Commission (EC), Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on Tuesday, asked to comment on the EC's latest report on Croatia's progress, published by Reuters, which for the first time mentions the border issue.

Sanader, who is on an official visit to Estonia, said the European agenda needed not to be additionally burdened as the border was a bilateral issue between Croatia and Slovenia.

He said the two countries did not manage to resolve this issue through bilateral negotiations during the last 15 years.

"If the issue cannot be resolved through bilateral negotiations, the most logical and the most elegant solution for the two countries is to resolve the matter before an international judicial body, to agree which body that would be and for their parliaments to commit in advance to unconditionally accepting the verdict," Sanader said.

The Croatian PM said this was a democratic solution and the best way to resolve the problem that had been hampering the two countries' relations for the past 15 years.
