The talks could lead to compromises and Kosovo's being placed back under Serbian rule, Kurti told the Serbian-language Glas Juga political weekly.
"Even Montenegrins, who fought together with Serbs in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, don't want to live with them any longer. They are putting pressure on us, forcing us to negotiate and make compromises, which will only lead to new dependence on Serbia," Kurti said.
"Apart from Serbia breathing down our necks, we also have UNMIK hanging over our heads. Negotiations with Belgrade would be impossible in such a situation. We want to decide about our future independently, and that is why we want self-determination," Kurti said.
The "Self-Determination" movement is growing in numbers. It has branches in many Kosovo municipalities and frequently stages rallies against talks with Serbia on the status of the province.
