Varazdin Free Zone gains new impetus

ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - Three factories are operating in the VarazdinFree Zone in northern Croatia and new plants will be opened by the endof the year, giving the biggest Croatian greenfield investment newimpetus.
ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - Three factories are operating in the Varazdin Free Zone in northern Croatia and new plants will be opened by the end of the year, giving the biggest Croatian greenfield investment new impetus.

Boxmark, one of the largest manufacturers of leather seats and furniture, is already operating and employs over 1,000 workers. It is currently building a 35,000 square metre plant and plans to build another of 100,000 square metres by the end of 2008. The company is expected to employ 2,500 workers and make EUR350-400 million in exports.

Switzerland's Hoeger is expected to complete plants by the end of the year. It will manufacture food-processing machinery and employ 100-200 workers.

Croatia's Work-ing will manufacture electrical switches in cooperation with a Polish partner, mainly for the European market.

Germany's BHS Corrugated, the world's leading manufacturer of carton production machinery, will employ more than 200 workers.

Croatia's Zrinski AG, which manufactures mobile phone boards and antennas for NASA among other things, plans to employ more than 100 workers.

The Italian manufacturer of machinery for the production of polystyrene and construction elements, Marchetti Giovanni, will start building a plant next year and initially employ 150 people.

The export of Varazdin Free Zone users is expected to exceed EUR500 million by the end of 2008 and provide employment for 3,500 people.
