ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - The national debt amounted to 117.2 billion kuna at the end of July or 52.8 per cent of the GDP estimated for this year, according to figures the Finance Ministry released on Wednesday.

The figure includes the external and the domestic debt, as well as the debts of extrabudgetary funds, the local government, the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR), and state guarantees.

Excluding the HBOR debt and the state guarantees, the national debt at the end of July was 99.4 billion kuna and accounted for 44.8 per cent of GDP.

The debt went up 6.7 billion kuna from the end of 2004, which was the result of an increase in the domestic and a decrease in the external debt.

The external debt at the end of July was 44.7 billion kuna and was cut by 5.4 billion kuna in this year's first seven months.

The government's orientation to borrow on the domestic market is reflected in the growth of the domestic debt, which amounted to 54.7 billion kuna at the end of July and increased by 12.2 billion kuna since the end of 2004.
