ZAGREB, Oct 8 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on Friday evening Croatia did not need early elections stressing that they would not be held.

Croatia does not need new elections, Sanader told Croatian Television, adding that given the election processes, new election would mean at least a six month-long "blockade" which Croatia could not afford now that its EU entry talks were launched.

He said that his Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) would benefit the most from early election, adding that his party would win the regular elections in two years.

The PM dismissed a possibility of forming a great coalition with the Social Democrats (SDP). He said there would be no coalition, but added that the countries would cooperate in the processes of joining the EU.

Saying that the executive authority would not interfere with the judiciary, Prime Minister Sanader declined to comment on the arrest of journalists Josip Jovic and the Pretrac case.

Sanader once again stressed Croatia was a safe country for business activities.

The PM wished all the best for Independence Day to all citizens of Croatia.
