The task of the Commission is to protect, preserve and explore cultural heritage of the American population in the world, notably minorities who had been victims of genocide in the past, Miller said. Protecting and exploring the American cultural heritage mostly refers to exploring religious sites, such as churches, cemeteries, documents, etc., and the commission reports to the US Congress about its work, Miller said. He said the exploring would soon be launched in Croatia.
Ahead of his visit to Djakovo, Miller visited the Jasenovac memorial site where some members of his family were killed in the local concentration camp during World War II.
