ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - Croatian Tourism Minister Bozidar Kalmeta on Tuesday issued a message on the occasion of World Tourism Day, expressing satisfaction with the construction of the Zagreb-Split highway, which he said created conditions for the country's future development.

Recognising the importance of travel for tourism, the branch of the economy which is the basis of Croatia's development, the Croatian government has created conditions for continuing the construction of the Zagreb-Split highway further down to Dubrovnik, and it will soon start the construction of a bridge connecting the southern peninsula of Peljesac with the mainland, Kalmeta said, adding that the projects would complete the country's road infrastructure.

The minister also pointed out the importance of modernisation of the country's air, sea and river ports, the renewal of the shipping and air fleets, and the introduction of tilting and excursion trains.

These projects are expected to help Croatia keep the title of the most attractive Mediterranean tourist destination, he said.

This year's World Tourism Day, dedicated to travel and transport, is being marked under the slogan "Travel and Transport: From the Imaginary of Jules Verne to 21st Century Reality".
