The day was chosen last year as the National Day against Violence against Women to commemorate the murder of the three women killed by an enraged husband.
The Ministry of Family Affairs, War Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity has published a directory containing the addresses of 48 institutions that can be contacted by victims of domestic violence and a leaflet describing the duties of the police, health and social institutions and the judiciary in such cases.
Mato Oraskic has been sentenced to 40 years' imprisonment for killing his wife Gordana Oraskic, her lawyer Hajra Prohic and judge Ljiljana Hvalec and wounding court clerk Stanka Cvetkovic in the Zagreb Municipal Court on 22 September 1999.
That was the first 40-year prison sentence to be given in Croatia since the country gained independence in 1992.
A memorial ceremony was held in the court on Thursday in tribute to the victims of the crime. Attending were officials from the Supreme Court, the Zagreb County Court and organisations for the prevention of violence against women.
