The news could not be immediately verified at the Osijek Police Department, and Interior Ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun could not confirm the information in an interview with Hina.
Mehun said that police were conducting interviews, but could not give any other details, saying that he failed to get in touch with the chief of police in Osijek, Vladimir Faber.
Lawyer Dumancic said that Margus had been arrested and taken to the police headquarters in Osijek. He added that his client chose to stand mute and that he would be taken before an investigating judge on Thursday.
A few months ago Margus was implicated by the media in unresolved murders committed in the Osijek area during the 1991-1995 Homeland War. Over the past few years charges have been pressed against him for issuing threats and illegal possession of large quantities of firearms and explosive substances.
