ZAGREB, Sept 1 (Hina) - An internal control unit of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior has found that no police employee talked to Adonis Hodzic, a war veteran who in mid-August accused the police in Osijek of unlawfully bringing him in for questioning and forcing him to sign a document incriminating local politician Branimir Glavas, the Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"It has been proven beyond doubt that none of the Ministry employees talked to or planned to talk to Hodzic. What is more, the police had no contact with Hodzic whatsoever," the statement said.

After Hodzic accused the police of bringing him in for questioning without a warrant and demanding that he sign a document incriminating Glavas, which Osijek police officials dismissed as an untruth, Interior Minister Ivica Kirin sent an internal control unit to the Osijek County Police Department, but the unit did not discover any unlawful acts or exceeding of police powers.

The Ministry said that the unit could not confirm information published in the media that the police in Osijek County were interrogating and harassing war veterans, who recently sought help from war veterans associations and local authorities claiming they were being harassed.

The Ministry went on to say that only two citizens contacted one of the war veterans associations complaining about police methods and reasons why they were brought in for questioning. Their cases were investigated and the County Police Department has replied to them, the Ministry said.
