PULA, Sept 18 (Hina) - Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic commented on Sunday on the possibility of Croatia becoming the target of a terrorist attack after the identity of a Croatian protected witness in a trial against an al-Qa'ida leader has reportedly been revealed.

The minister said he did not believe that Croatia could become a target as a result of this as-yet-unconfirmed report.

"I think Croatia's foreign policy and attitude towards all countries is such that the occurrence of such an event is not very likely," Roncevic told reporters in the northern Adriatic town of Pula following a ceremony marking Croatian Navy Day.

He pointed out that no country could say with certainty that it could not be the target of a terrorist attack, as shown by events that have occurred over the last three or four years.

"Every country has to set up a system and take care to eliminate the possibility of terrorist activity in the first place," Roncevic said.

According to an article in the Sunday issue of the Vecernji List daily, details of the protected testimony and the identity of a Croatian national in the trial of one of al-Qa'ida leaders, Sheik Mohamead Al Hassan, at the Federal Court in New York have been revealed by media.

The newspaper quoted experts as warning that the publication of news that a Croatian national was an important witness in the trial was "an open invitation to extremists".
