ZAGREB, Sept 15 (Hina) - The Croatian ship Mirna, which had been detained in Indonesia's Surabaya with a 25-member Croatian crew, sailed out to Singapore on Thursday after successful negotiations between the Croatian Embassy in Jakarta and the Croatian Foreign Ministry with the Indonesian authorities, the ministry said in a press release.

The Mirna will be escorted to international waters by the Indonesian Navy and is expected to arrive at Singapore in two days.

The ship had been engaged in transporting wood logs from Surabaya but upon sailing out of the port in late August 2004, it was stopped by the Indonesian Navy which, having established that the ship's papers were not in order, returned it to Surabaya and kept it there.

The ship's captain was accused of sailing with irregular documents and put on trial early this year. In April, he was fined with 2,200 US dollars, which he paid. When the judgment became final in May 6, the ship was officially free to leave the Indonesian port but was unable to do so.

On August 23, about 200 armed Indonesian Navy members occupied the ship by force, seizing it in the presence of representatives of the state prosecutor and the Surabaya port captain. A spokesman for the Indonesian Navy said the army had acted on orders from the state prosecutor, who claimed the ship had been transporting illegal cargo.

On September 8, the ship's owner, Losinjska Plovidba, and its insurance company handed the Indonesian authorities a letter of credit to the amount of USD1 million in case the Croatian shipping company were prosecuted again and fined because the ship's papers were not in order.
