SARAJEVO, Aug 15 (Hina) - The German government has donated 150,000 euros to speed up the search for persons who went missing during the war in the former Yugoslavia, the International Commission for Missing Persons (ICMP) in Sarajevo stated on Monday.

The ICMP will use the donation to collect and profile DNA samples from remains and compare them with DNA samples of the living relatives of missing persons.

Since the start of this process in November 2001, the ICMP has matched DNA samples in more than 8,000 cases, of which 6,000 refer to people who went missing in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Apart from Germany, the ICMP is also supported financially by the United States, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Greece, the Holy See and the European Union.
