The HZ is functioning normally and reports about the company being in a state of chaos are not true, Mlinaric said, adding that the Zagreb-Rijeka railway line was reopened to traffic in five days.
The company needs organisational and technical changes, which are taking place, as well as better efficiency and lower costs. This year the HZ plans to invest around one billion kuna in infrastructure and transport projects.
In the first half of this year the HZ transported 19.25 million passengers and the annual plan is 38.5 million passengers.
More than 1,000 trains travel daily along HZ railways carrying more than 100,000 passengers. In the first half of this year, the number of railway accidents dropped by 25.5 percent and of minor accidents by 5.77 percent in relation to the same period of 2003. Traffic delays decreased by 29 percent, Mlinaric said presenting data on the performance of the current and former company managements.
Speaking about recent derailment of cargo trains at Deanovac and Drivenik, a company representative said a report on the derailment of three rail tanks near Deanovac (on the Zagreb-Vinkovci railway) could be completed on Tuesday. He added that the cause of the accident was most probably damage to railway tracks caused by the passage of a heavy train.
Commenting on the derailment of a cargo train at Drivenik (on the Zagreb-Rijeka railway), the company representative said a report on the causes of the accident would be released in a month.
