Danas said many formerly eminent Krajina Serbs living in Serbia were doing this today, without questioning their own responsibility at all, but concluding that Zagreb and Croatia were celebrating a Serb tragedy today.
The daily said it was unrealistic to expect Zagreb to renounce the victory in Storm, or acknowledge that ethnic cleansing occurred, not by killing but by expelling Serbs.
The daily said it would be better to demand that Croatia change its laws to facilitate the return of Serb refugees and the restitution of property to those who wanted to remain in Serbia in the form of a fair compensation, adding this would lead to an indirect acknowledgement that not only individual excesses had occurred during Storm.
Danas also urged shedding light on the role of the then Belgrade officials. "To admit their contribution to the exodus and the betrayal of everything that had been promised. To shove this under the other side's nose so that it would realise that it is not dealing with the same people and the same regime."
