Police find man who burnt EU flag and press charges against him

ZAGREB, March 16 (Hina) - The Zagreb police established the identity of a 25-year-old man who set a European Union flag on fire during anti-government protest rallies in the Croatian capital two weeks ago, and the perpetrator faces a prison sentence ranging between three months and three years.

The police reported on Wednesday they had pressed criminal charges against the perpetrator who burnt the EU flag which was displayed at the Social Democratic Party (SDP) headquarters. The incident occurred on 2 March when flags of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and of the opposition SDP were also torched, but that did not constitute a criminal act.

The criminal charges were pressed against the 25-year-man for committing an offence against the reputation of foreign countries and international organisations.
