Sabor appoints MPs to judicial and prosecutorial appointment councils

ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament (Sabor) on Friday appointed Josip Salapic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Josip Leko of the Social Democratic Party as members of the Judicial Appointment Council, and Ana Lovrin of the HDZ and Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic of the SDP as members of the Prosecutorial Appointment Council.

MPs ratified a contract on state guarantees between Croatia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for a EUR 131.5 million project to build a 12.5-kilometre motorway section and a border crossing as part the pan-European transport corridor Vc. The motorway section runs along the northern border between Croatia and Bosnia, while the border crossing is located at Metkovic on the southern border between the two countries. The loan ensured by the EBRD for this purpose will cover EUR 60.63 million and the rest will be secured by the Croatian Motorways company.

Parliament endorsed reports on the performance of the State Auditor's Office in 2010 and on the work of the national anti-corruption council from 1 June 2009 to 30 June 2010.

Also ratified were the European programme for non-repayble funds for the reconstruction of cultural heritage in formerly war-stricken areas in the Western Balkans and four agreements between the Croatian government and the European Commission on the use of non-repayable EU pre-accession funds for cross-border cooperation with Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for participation in the transnational cooperation programmes "Southeast Europe" and "The Mediterranean".

MPs ratified an agreement on police cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime with the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Sabor continues its session next week.
