Minister: Statute of limitations for ex-policeman's offence in Purda case expires

SISAK, Feb 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of the Interior, Tomislav Karamarko, has said that the case of the misdemeanor which former Vukovar County police official Miroslav Janic committed by revealing an official secret, when he told Tihomir Purda that he was on an Interpol Red Notice in 2007, has expired and that the statute of limitations ran out three years ago.

In addition, Janic, the current mayor of the eastern town of Ilok, is no longer in the police system, Karamarko said on Thursday, responding to questions from the press about the Janic case.

Things are clear, Karamarko said in Sisak, where he was attending the destruction of illegal weapons.

Asked whether the police were thinking about revoking the ban on holding rallies in St. Mark's Square in Zagreb, where the government and parliament are headquartered, the minister said that the police definitely were not considering it, as the police were only focused on the enforcement of the law.

Somebody else will decide on venues of public rallies and assemblies and conditions and terms for their organisation, he said.
