The value of new contracts in the construction sector plummeted by 34.6 percent in 2010 on the year, evidencing the worsening of the crisis in this sector.
In 2009, the value of the performed construction work went down by 12 percent as compared to 2008 and the value of new contracts went down by 13.6 percent on the year.
The value of the construction work done by companies with 20 or more employees in Croatia totalled HRK 22.8 billion in 2010 as against HRK 30.7 billion in 2090, while the value of new contracts went down from HRK 22.7 billion in 2009 to HRK 14.8 billion in 2010.
Construction of new buildings accounted for 62.5 percent in the total work of those companies, and other types of construction made up 37.5 percent in 2010.
