ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - Foreign direct investments in Croatia in thefirst quarter of 2005 amounted to $221.3 million, while foreign directinvestments between 1993 and the end of March 2005 amounted slightlyover $11 billion, the Croatian National Bank has reported.
ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - Foreign direct investments in Croatia in the first quarter of 2005 amounted to $221.3 million, while foreign direct investments between 1993 and the end of March 2005 amounted slightly over $11 billion, the Croatian National Bank has reported.

Hungary accounted for 38.7 percent of foreign investments in this year's first quarter, followed by Austria with 38.2 percent. Over the last 12 years Austria has been the leading foreign investor in Croatia, with a share of 28.1 percent.

Almost 76 percent of foreign direct investments in the first quarter was made in the banking sector, which was the most interesting investment sector also in the period between 1993 and late March this year, accounting for 24.3 percent of all foreign investments. Banking is followed by telecommunications (14.8 percent), the pharmaceutical industry (9.7 percent) and the oil industry (7.3 percent).
