Croatian President receives Swedish Foreign Minister

ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Tuesdayreceived Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds, the President'sOffice said in a statement.
ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Tuesday received Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds, the President's Office said in a statement.

Minister Freivalds said that Sweden believed that the process of the continuation of the EU enlargement was important, because all countries which belong to the European circle must join the EU. She expressed Sweden's support to the opening of Croatia's EU entry talks as soon as possible.

Sweden wants Croatia to launch its negotiations with the EU as soon as possible, the minister said and added that Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was critical in that process. She expressed hope that the country's action plan would yield results. She said that given its level of development, Croatia could play an important role in the development of regional cooperation.

Commenting on bilateral relations, Freivalds expressed convictions there was room for advancing bilateral cooperation, notably in the economy. She reiterated the importance of the implementation of the justice reform.

President Mesic said that the two countries' relation were good and expressed satisfaction with Sweden's investments in Croatia and the interest of Swedish tourists in Croatia as a tourist destination. Mesic reiterated that Croatia's strategic objective was joining Euro-Atlantic associations.
