BELGRADE, July 22 (Hina) - The head of the Serbian Humanitarian Law Fund, Natasa Kandic, said on Friday there were witnesses claiming that Serbian Radical Party (SRS) vice president Tomislav Nikolic had personally forced Croatian civilians in the eastern Croatian village of Antin to clear mine fields in the early 1990s.

"I have information about (Nikolic's) involvement in crimes against civilians in Antin," Kandic told Belgrade's BK Television and B92 Radio.

She said one of the sources was a survivor who recognised Nikolic and claimed he had been in Antin. Kandic added that "some say he personally forced Croatian civilians to clear mine fields".

Kandic said there were witnesses who confirmed what had happened in Antin but that no one confirmed what was claimed by the SRS, namely that Nikolic had been a humanitarian worker or an officer, that he had only been visiting Antin and that he had been a volunteer.

Kandic reiterated that an investigation into the Antin case was launched, that a crime had taken place and that Nikolic had been in the village.

Last month, Nikolic sued Kandic for defamation because of her claims that he had been involved in the Antin crime.
