ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis opened the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Zagreb on Friday which is expected to lead to more concrete economic cooperation between Croatia and Latvia.

The plaque at the entrance to the consulate in Petrinjska Street was unveiled by Kalvitis, Croatian Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, and Latvia's honorary consul to Croatia, Davor Sarin.

Kalvitis said after the ceremony the opening of the consulate was a big step forward in the development of bilateral relations in the economy, tourism and culture.

He also said that Croatian-Latvian cooperation was excellent, but added that the active political relations should be complemented by practical steps.

The Croatian foreign minister agreed and announced that Croatia planned to open an embassy in Riga in the near future.

Earlier today, Kalvitis met Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks. In the talks he underlined that Latvia, as a member of the European Union and NATO, supported Croatia's admission to these associations and was willing to help it in the accession process.
