ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Friday received Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis who is on an official visit to Croatia, the President's Office said in a statement.

Mesic and Kalvitis agreed that the two countries had no outstanding issues, but that economic cooperation could be intensified, notably in tourism and shipbuilding industry, the statement said.

The Latvian PM stressed the importance of the Europeisation of the entire region of Southeast Europe and reiterated his country's support to Croatia's joining the European Union, the statement said.

The Latvian PM was also received by Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks, the parliament's public relations office said in a statement.

Seks said Latvia was one of the first countries to recognise Croatia on 14 December 1991, adding that Croatia recognised Latvia on 28 August the same year.

He said the two countries' relations were good with no outstanding issues. Seks said that good cooperation would be advanced even more in the future, notably in the economy.

The Croatian Parliament Speaker thanked Latvia on its support to Croatia's aspirations to join NATO and the European Union and invited the president of the Latvian parliament to visit Croatia.
