SPLIT, July 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Roads company and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a loan agreement worth EUR60 million earmarked for the construction of the Split ring road. The Croatian government provided guarantees.

The loan agreement was signed in Split on Wedbesday by Croatian Roads director Stjepko Boban and the director of the EIB department for central and eastern Europe, Franz Jozef Vetter.

Present at the signing were the Minister for the Sea, Transport and Tourism, Bozidar Kalmeta, and Finance Minister Ivan Suker.

The entire project of constructing a four lane speedway from Trogir to Omis is one of the largest and technically most demanding projects of the Croatian Roads company, worth over 203 million kuna, Kalmeta said.

The project includes three road sections - the 11.1 kilometre-long section from Kastel Sucurac to Plano near Trogir, 13.9 kilometre-long speedway from Stobrec to Dugi Rat near Omis, and a six kilometre-long ring road which is the most demanding construction job given that it includes a five kilometre-long tunnel and a bridge over the river of Cetina.

The construction works are scheduled to start at the end of this year and the roads will be opened in 2008, Kalmeta said.

The EUR60 million loan was granted to the period of 25 years with a five year grace period and a favourable interest rate of 3.89 percent.
