SARAJEVO, July 19 (Hina) - The mandate of the international
community's high representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina might be changed by
October 2006 into that of the European Union's special representative, High
Representative Paddy Ashdown told the Bosnian state parliament on Tuesday. This was the first mention of a possible date for the closure of the
Office of the High Representative (OHR).
Ashdown said the Peace Implementation Council, which determines the
international community's policy in Bosnia, had made it known it was ready to
launch the closure of the OHR.
According to Ashdown, the EU special representative in Bosnia would not
have the authority that the international community's high representative has,
namely he would not be able to replace the most prominent politicians.
