SARAJEVO/LJUBLJANA, June 21 (Hina) - Croatian embassies in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia on Tuesday evening gave annual receptions on the occasion of Croatia's Statehood Day, to be marked on June 25.

The reception in Sarajevo was attended by more than 1,000 guests, including people from politics, the public life and culture in Bosnia, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Bosnia, including High Representative Paddy Ashdown.

Ambassador Josip Vrbosic said Croatia had become, since gaining independence 14 years ago, a stable democracy aspiring to join the European Union.

He also promoted Croatia's tourism, inviting those in attendance to spend their summer holidays on the Croatian coast.

The marking of Croatian Statehood Day in Bosnia was accompanied by Croatian Culture Days.

In Ljubljana, several hundred Slovene politicians, business people and figures from culture, as well as representatives of foreign embassies, attended the reception.

Croatian Ambassador to Ljubljana Mario Nobilo said Croatia and Slovenia declared independence on the same day 14 years ago, and that they became UN members the same day.

He also said Croatia and Slovenia are two friendly neighbouring countries, and recalled the recent joint session of the two governments.
