SKOPJE, July 16 (Hina) - There were no casualties and no one was wounded in an explosion in front of a police station in Skopje's neighbourhood of Bit Pazar on the night between Friday and Saturday, the Macedonian Interior Ministry said in a press release, adding that an investigation is under way.

Bit Pazar is in the central Skopje area and its population is mixed Macedonian and ethnic Albanians.

The National Security Council heard from President Branko Crvenkovski on Friday that the situation in the village of Kondovo could no longer be tolerated and that all those known to have committed criminals acts must be arrested and brought to justice.

The Council convened following frequent media claims that a number of armed groups had entered Macedonia from Kosovo and because of the situation in Kondovo, just outside Skopje, where for some time now Agim Krasniqi, commander of the former National Liberation Army, has been threatening to destabilise Macedonia.

This army comprises rebel Albanians who in 2001 caused an armed conflict in Macedonia. Its leader was Ali Ahmeti, the current leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, the Social Democratic Alliance's coalition partner in the Macedonian government.

Last week a police station was assaulted in Vratnica, a village near Tetovo populated mostly by Macedonians.
