SARAJEVO, July 11 (Hina) - The European Union High Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, has condemned the 1995 massacre of eight thousand Bosniaks in Srebrenica as a monstrous crime.

Solana has published his authorised article in the Sarajevo-based Dnevni Avaz daily in Monday in which he stated that after that atrocity, which was also a lesson for all of them, European countries decided to build a common foreign policy and prepare themselves to react in crisis situations.

In the moral, human and political sense Srebrenica is the darkest moment of all the wars waged in the area of the former Yugoslavia, Among other horrible things of those wars, Srebrenica will be remembered as the most horrible crime committed on the soil of Europe after the end of World War Two, he wrote.

It is undoubted that those mass killings were committed by Serb forces and that they were planned, Solana wrote, among other things.

He emphasises that the world and Europe fell short of hopes which victims had had in them.

We shall be for ever labelled for and ashamed of having been unable to prevent the crime, the EU official added.
