SARAJEVO, June 22 (Hina) - Associations gathering the families of people who went missing in Srebrenica and the Islamic community in Bosnia-Herzegovina will boycott Serbian President Boris Tadic if he arrives at a commemoration marking the 10th anniversary of the massacre committed by Bosnian Serb forces against more than 8,000 Muslims from Srebrenica on July 11, 1995.

Bosnian Presidency member Sulejman Tihic met on Tuesday with representatives of an association gathering mothers from Srebrenica and Zepa to discuss the organisation of the commemoration, to take place at Potocari near Srebrenica.

Tihic's calling the meeting was an obvious attempt to calm down tension and persuade the families of the Srebrenica victims that Tadic's visit should be viewed as a gesture of respect for the victims.

"Tihic wanted to hear what we think about that issue. We said that our position was the same - we did not invite anyone to come nor will we prevent anyone, including the delegation from Serbia and Montenegro, to come to Potocari if they have the face to show up at the graveyard of thousands of innocent Srebrenica victims," the association's president, Munira Subasic, was quoted by "Dnevni avaz" daily as saying.

The association believes that the arrival of the delegation from Serbia and Montenegro, which is also expected to include Serbia and Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic and Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, should be viewed as an act of recognition not only of the Srebrenica genocide but of all other crimes in which the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, today's Serbia and Montenegro, participated.

Tuzla Mufti Husein Kavazovic said the Islamic community would not participate in the official protocol of the Potocari commemoration, including the part when the delegation from Serbia and Montenegro is expected to arrive.

Kavazovic said the invitation to officials from Serbia and Montenegro to the commemoration was degrading for the Srebrenica victims and the tragedy itself.

Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic has commented on Tadic's visit to Srebrenica in a speech before the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Terzic said that Tadic's attendance should be viewed in the context of "internationalisation" of the anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.

He recalled that the crime in Srebrenica had been ignored in Serbia for almost ten years and that open discussions about it had started only after the recent showing of video recordings showing brutal murders committed by members of the "Scorpions" units.

Nevertheless, Terzic concluded by saying that all who intended to visit Srebrenica on July 11 would enjoy the same level of security.
