Dzakula told reporters in Zagreb that the government should step up the process of the property restitution, the reconstruction of facilities and infrastructure and ensure the consistent implementation of the Constitutional Law on the Rights of National Minorities.
Commenting on the return of Serb refugees, Dzakula said that returnees were exposed to threats and intimidations and that the reconstruction of war-damaged houses had been slowed down. He, however, welcomed the Croatian Government's decision to extend a deadline for the application for the housing accommodation of former holders of socially-owned flats.
Dzakula presented figures on the Serb returnees which differed from the official statistics. According to official statistics, 117,000 Serb refugees have returned to Croatia so far, while Dzakula claims that 70,000 really came back, explaining that many of the returnees could not stay in Croatia as they had no secure livelihood.
He added that the official figures showed that 460 housing facilities are still to be returned to pre-war Serb owners, while he put the figure between 650 and 750 houses.
