PM Kosor and employers hold meeting

ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - After holding a meeting with the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) on Monday in Zagreb, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor called on executives of public companies to be quicker and more courageous in making decisions about launching economic projects.

Kosor said they should not be afraid if they worked in compliance with law.

PM said that employers had complained about a halt in the implementation of economic projects due to the fear of public companies' managers amidst the anti-corruption drive, which is in full swing.

A meeting on this issue will be convened between the government, the prosecutorial authorities and HUP, with the aim to facilitate the implementation of "frozen projects", Kosor told reporters after meeting the HUP representatives.

Today's meeting also revolved around the further reduction of para-fiscal charges, with Kosor recalling that her cabinet had already reduced some of those levies by 20-25 percent.

Kosor called on authorities in counties, cities, towns and municipalities to think what they could do for that purpose too.

The premier announced the continuation of talks with employers.

HUP President Ivan Ergovic said that HUP found it unacceptable that the domestic industry paid the highest gas price in the region and that employers insisted on changing the tariff payment system.

As regards the cases of employers who fail to pay contributions for their workers and taxes to the state budget, Ergovic said the association was willing to expunge such people from its membership.

HUP has nothing against making public the names of companies that do not pay taxes and contributions to the state, the HUP chief said, adding that difficult business conditions had left many of them in such a situation.
