ZAGREB, June 21 (Hina) - The Republic of Croatia was created on the foundations of antifascism and the decisions of the WWII

Antifascist Council of the National Liberation of Croatia (ZAVNOH), Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks said at a reception on the occasion of Antifascist Struggle Day, which is observed on June 22.

Seks said the committee in charge of marking the 60th anniversary of the Antifascist Coalition, which he chairs, moved that September 25 be proclaimed by law memorial day recalling the "annexation of the sold, seized parts of Croatian territory" to the homeland.

Seks said the incumbent parliament was not the successor of those who betrayed and sold parts of Croatian territory in WWII.

He said his committee had also moved amendments to improve the legal position of antifascist fighters, asked the correct evaluation of recent Croatian history, notably the Second World War, and advocated the preservation of National Liberation Struggle monuments.

Seks said the formation of the first organised, armed antifascist unit, not only in Croatia, but in Europe, would be marked tomorrow at Brezovica wood near Sisak, where the First Partisan Unit was formed on 22 June 1941.

Seks said that on that occasion, the Croatian people and other citizens had been the leaders in the struggle against fascism and the forces of evil.

The president of the Alliance of Antifascist Fighters and Antifascists of Croatia, Kresimir Piskulic, expressed satisfaction with the marking of the 60th anniversary of victory of the Antifascist Coalition and the evaluation of antifascism as a European achievement.

The reception was attended by surviving antifascists and fighters of the First Partisan Unit, politicians, President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, and representatives from the judiciary, Church, public life, culture and science.
