Seks says parliament may hold extraordinary session

ZAGREB, June 21 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Tuesday called a new, 15th parliamentary session, for the end of June.

Seks did not rule out the possibility for deputies to meet at an extraordinary session, namely after 15 July.

Parliament has to debate and vote on the 2005 budget revision, said Seks and expressed hope that this would be done by 15 July, when the constitutional deadline for regular sessions expires. He, however, did not rule out the possibility of an extraordinary session.

An extraordinary session could take place if the government sends to parliament bills regarding its agreement with pensioners, notably the bill on the new method of calculating pensions.

The 15th, last parliament session before the summer break is scheduled to start on June 29. It will last nine working days and for now there are 30 items on the agenda.

Deputies are expected to appoint judge Branko Hrvatin the new Supreme Court President. Parliament is also expected to voice its opinion on the annual report of the Croatian National Bank for 2004 and the bills on excise tax on coffee and civil servants and amendments to the Distress Act.

Seks declined to comment on the latest decision of President Stjepan Mesic to reduce the prison sentences of two members of the Croatian Serb rebel forces despite harsh objections from the Justice Ministry.

The public and competent institutions will give its opinion on this decision, Seks said.
