ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday failed togather the necessary 102 MPs or two thirds of the total number ofdeputies to adopt a decision on giving the green light to CroatianArmy (HV) units to participate in multilateral military manoeuvresoutside Croatia.
ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday failed to gather the necessary 102 MPs or two thirds of the total number of deputies to adopt a decision on giving the green light to Croatian Army (HV) units to participate in multilateral military manoeuvres outside Croatia.

Nevertheless, a platoon of the Croatian Army will be able to take part in a bilateral military exercise in the US state of Minnesota because that exercise is envisaged by Partnership for Peace and is in compliance with an international agreement ratified by the Sabor in 2001. The government believes that the Croatian Army does not need additional parliamentary consent, so the Croatian platoon will fly to Minnesota in accordance with a decision adopted by the Supreme Commander on Thursday.

The Croatian Army's participation in military exercises in Albania, Georgia and Ukraine later this year will be discussed by the parliament at the next session at the end of June, Sabor Speaker Vladimir Seks said today.

The parliament completed its 14th session this afternoon by voting on items discussed during the session.

The 15th session is set for the end of June.

Before wrapping up the session, the Sabor adopted an annual financial statement on the execution of the 2004 state budget.

The club of deputies of the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), which harshly criticised the statement, announced that it would ask the Office of the State Prosecutor and the State Auditor's Office to establish differences between last year's budget revision from July 2004, the technically revised budget from last December and the financial statement that was discussed today.

The parliament did not vote on the nomination of Ranko Marijan for Supreme Court President after Marijan withdrew his candidature because it was not sure whether parliamentary parties would support his appointment by consensus.
