Mudrinic said that this had been announced by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, adding that the proposed amendments would be sent for elaboration and that all social partners would be able to discuss them.
"The government does not want to do something that would encounter strong opposition," he said.
Asked if this meant that the government was abandoning the amendments, Mudrinic said that it meant that the government was ready for a debate on them in the GSV.
GSV vice-chairman Vilim Ribic said that he was pleased that the prime minister had accepted objections raised by trade unions and that there would be enough time left for trade unions to present their arguments in the GSV and express their opposition to any bans on protest rallies being held outside government headquarters in St Mark's Square.
"We call for better legal provisions that will increase the level of security during protest rallies," Ribic said.
Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor noted that everyone agreed that the right to protest was unquestionable, but that attention should be paid to security. She added that security experts would be invited to the next GSV session to give their opinion on the matter.
