MOSTAR, June 17 (Hina) - The Croat People's Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has three deputies in the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, is opposed to any elections in the country before the adoption of a new constitution to replace the current constitution that is based on the Dayton peace agreement.

Parliamentary elections in Bosnia are scheduled for October 2006, and Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic recently urged organising early elections.

The leader of the Croat People's Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miljenko Brkic, told reporters in Mostar on Friday that organising the next parliamentary elections in line with the Dayton peace agreement as it was now, with the country divided into two entities, would prolong the solving of problems in Bosnia-Herzegovina for another four years.

"Changing the Constitution that is based on the Dayton peace agreement is not enough. What is needed is a radical change and the adoption of a new constitution," Brkic said.

He said that the country should be organised into at least four regions - Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla and Banja Luka, with each of the country's constituent peoples being guaranteed at least a 25 percent share in the government in each region to avoid dominance by any nation in any part of the country.

The Croat People's Union was established by Brkic in 1992, who left the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) because of his disagreement with the policy of the HDZ in Croatia.
