SHANGHAI, May 30 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in Shanghai on Monday that French voters' rejection of the European Constitution could not undermine the idea about uniting Europe. nor could it produce a negative effect on Croatia's status.

During Sunday's referendum in France, almost 55 percent of those who went to the polls voted against ratifying the European Constitution, slowing down the process of European integration.

Sanader told Croatian reporters who were covering his official visit to China that the results of the French referendum did not show only French voters' attitude towards the European Constitution but also their attitude towards the current French government, which was why some other segments affected their decision.

The idea of uniting Europe is not at risk, but all in Europe, both European Union member states and countries-candidates, must think about how they can realise that idea so as to preserve peace and confidence, Sanader said.

According to the Croatian premier, the French 'No' cannot halt the process of the EU enlargement nor can it affect Croatia's status.
