The mission consisted of Roeland Bocker and Aristot Gavrilladis.
Bocker said that the situation in the Croatian judiciary was worrisome because of procrastination in the settlement of pending cases. Pointing to the importance of good court organisation, Bocker said he believed that Croatia had too many municipal courts.
Gajica said that in 2004 the committee had received slightly over 300 complaints from citizens. The highest number of complaints (18 percent) referred to real estate and housing problems. They were followed by complaints about the performance of state and local administration bodies and the work of courts, the Croatian parliamentarian said.
Sobol spoke about the Law on Gender Equality adopted by consensus in 2003. She informed the EC officials about the representation of women in the legislative branch. In the Sabor, 19.7 percent of MPs are women, while the share of women in local bodies of authority is 14 percent after the recent local elections, Sobol said, describing this share as still unsatisfactory.
