ZAGREB, May 24 (Hina) - Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Ivica Racan said on Tuesday last weekend's bomb attacks in eastern Croatia were terrorist acts aimed at stopping the strengthening of the rule of law.

Racan also commented on Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) vice president Milorad Pupovac's claims that Party of Rights (HSP) leader Anto Djapic was making pro-segregation statements. Racan said all democratic forces in the country had the responsibility to stop the undermining of inter-ethnic relations because that damaged Croats, Serbs, and Croatia as a whole.

Racan also said that in areas with inter-ethnic tensions, all who considered themselves democratic parties should sit down and find solutions, even through the formation of local authorities. He invited Djapic for such talks to defuse the situation in the eastern town of Vukovar.

Racan said a meeting scheduled with Djapic today was not held for technical reasons and would be held tomorrow.

Racan refuted media allegations that the SDP and the HSP would form a coalition in Zagreb, saying such a coalition was not possible.

He said a coalition with the Croatian Democratic Union might be possible, but under precisely defined terms.
