SARAJEVO, May 24 (Hina) - The first phase of drawing up documents for the construction of a highway section that is part of the corridor Vc running through Bosnia-Herzegovina has been completed and the Bosnian government will make a decision on the final route of the section by June 10, Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic told reporters on Tuesday.

Terzic was speaking at a news conference at which he presented extensive documentation that was compiled by companies from Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italy and which is the basis for the drawing up of final construction plans for the highway connecting Budapest and the southern Croatian port of Ploce.

"The Council of Ministers of Bosnia-Herzegovina will now decide about one of the three offered sections," Terzic said, adding that all necessary elements, including those of political nature, would be taken into account.

Assistant Transport and Communications Minister Izet Bajrambasic, who also coordinates the highway project, said that all three proposed sections entered Bosnia-Herzegovina at Svilaj, and ran along almost the same route via Doboj, Zenica and Sarajevo to Tarcin, some 20 kilometres south of Sarajevo. From Tarcin to the settlement of Potoci north of Mostar five different routes have been proposed, and from Potoci further down south three.

Two of the three routes running from Potoci to the border with Croatia run along the Neretva river valley.

The location where the highway will enter Croatia will depend on the final agreement between the two countries on the route of the future Adriatic-Ionian highway.

There are two proposals for that highway: one envisages the construction of the highway through western and eastern Herzegovina, while the other envisages its construction through Croatia, with only a small part passing through Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Negotiations between the two countries on this issue will continue, Terzic said.

Bajrambasic said the proposal that the highway section of the corridor Vc should run through uninhabited areas of Bosnia-Herzegovina had been definitely abandoned. That proposal also included the construction of a 22-kilometre-long tunnel.

Terzic said that the second phase of preparations for the construction of the corridor Vc section would be finished by the end of July, when all elements of the future highway route would be defined.

After that, final designs will be drawn up and bids for the construction of the highway are expected to be invited at the beginning of next year.
