KRAPINA, May 5 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has urged commercial banks to simplify the procedure for granting loans to business people and entrepreneurs for business purposes.

Sanader, whose cabinet on Thursday held a session in the northern town of Krapina, warned that banks seemed more speedier when they granted loans for spending rather than for business purposes.

In this context he said he already held talks with some major banks on this topic, describing these talks as encouraging.

The government also considered the implementation of a national plan aimed at preventing people trafficking.

Between 2002 and the start of this year, Croatia registered 35 cases of trafficking in humans. In 2003 there were 19 victims of people smuggling, six of whom were Croatian citizens. Women accounted for a majority of the victims.

During the session in Krapina, the Croatian government also discussed local projects. It reported that works on the completion of the Zagreb-Macelj highway had started and that this highway towards the Slovene border should be completed in 2007. The value of the works on the 67-kilometre-long section is some two billion kuna. By 2008, the government plans to invest 365 million kuna into the building and reconstruction of roads in Krapina-Zagorje County.

Earlier on Thursday, before the government's session, PM Sanader opened the new customs administration office in Krapina.
