ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP) Management Board on Friday accepted the final offer of the Europapress Holding (EPH) newspaper publisher to buy 245,187 shares or 34.63 percent of Split's Slobodna Dalmacija daily at a price of 24.5 million kuna.

The EPH has pledged to provide 83.4 million kuna for the first phase of financial restructuring, HFP Management Board chairman Damir Polancec told reporters.

The first phase of financial restructuring should be implemented in 15 to 30 days, after the next session of the Slobodna Dalmacija Main Assembly, scheduled for June 6.

After the session, the EPH will become the owner of slightly more than 70 percent of Slobodna Dalmacija shares.

The EPH has also pledged to invest another 271 million kuna in recapitalisation.

Asked about the request of the Market Competition Agency that the EPH walk out of the press distributor "Tisak" because of ownership concentration and whether this was a condition for the purchase of Slobodna Dalmacija, Polancec and HFP President Damir Ostovic said the EPH had six months from the signing of the contract on Slobodna Dalmacija to leave Tisak.

The EPH has undertaken to keep all 686 employees of the Split daily for a period of at least one year and employ at least 70 new workers in the next five years.

Polancec said the EPH was ready to increase the employees' salaries by five percent as of January 1, when it would acquire the status of share-holder.

Asked about the transfer of 25 percent of the newspaper's stock capital to its former and current employees in line with a decision of the former government from 2003, Polancec said that this issue would be settled in the next 20 days.

The HFP's decision has to be confirmed by the government.
