Spokeswoman Danijela Barisic told Hina the two presidents had a brief and friendly talk about continuing the normalisation of relations in the long term.
She confirmed that negotiations on Mesic's visit to the state union had been interrupted.
Mesic scrapped plans to visit Serbia and Montenegro due to a Chetnik rally in Serbia last weekend which was attended by some representatives of the Serbian authorities.
Barisic thus confirmed today's article in the Serbian daily Danas claiming that Mesic and Marovic had talked about defusing tensions after the Chetnik rally and continuing with the improvement of bilateral cooperation.
Neither side gave more details about the conversation.
