Speaking at the election headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mesic said the winners of the local polls were the European, democratic option and the parties which had been oriented towards European standards and not only the date of European Union entry negotiations.
The president said the latest elections had been characterised by the fact that parties did not call each other enemies of the state and that focus was not only on national, but also on local issues.
Asked to comment on the fact that the right-wing electorate voted for several parties, Mesic said that was because there had been no integrating factor among those parties.
He also said that judging by the election results, he would probably attend the Sinjska Alka tournament this summer after information at the SDP election headquarters that after 15 years of ruling the town of Sinj, the HDZ had lost to the SDP.
