SARAJEVO, May 9 (Hina) - The Bosnian Parliament's House of Peoples on Monday confirmed the appointment of Ivo Miro Jovic the new Croat member of the state Presidency.

Jovic is the fifth Bosnian Croat holding this office since the three-man Presidency was set up with the Dayton peace agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia in 1995.

Jovic is expected to formally take office this week after being sworn in at the next Presidency session.

He was nominated by part of the leadership of Bosnia's Croatian Democratic Union party (HDZ BH). Four party members in the upper house voted for his appointment, while Tomislav Limov of the Social Democratic Party was against.

When Jovic's candidacy was okayed by the lower house on May 4, he received the votes of only two of his party's members and it was thanks to the votes of members of the Muslim Party of Democratic Action (SDA) that he was nominated.

This fact proved that there were fierce conflicts in the HDZ BH over Jovic's candidacy.

He did not attend today's upper house session nor did anyone elaborate his candidacy.
