SARAJEVO, April 20 (Hina) - Full cooperation of all countries in the Western Balkans with the Hague war crimes tribunal is a demand the European Union will continue to resolutely insist on, EU Political and Security Committee chairman Paul Duhr of Luxembourg said in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

He told the press the postponement of Croatia's EU entry negotiations, which had been scheduled for March 17, indicated how serious the EU was in that intent.

Duhr is heading a senior EU diplomatic and military delegation which arrived in Sarajevo to review the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the course of the Althea peace operation.

Another reason for the visit is the upcoming decision on the possibility of reducing the number of EU peacekeepers in Bosnia, which will depend on the situation in the country by November.

Duhr said it was very likely for Bosnia to be the last country in Southeast Europe to apply for admission to the EU after Serbia and Montenegro recently received a positive opinion on its suitability to start stabilisation and association negotiations as a result of improved cooperation with the Hague tribunal.

Duhr said that if Bosnia did not want that to happen, it must meet the well known terms which, apart from cooperation with the UN court, envisaged a swift police reorganisation, the adoption of an appropriate law on public radio and television broadcasting, and some technical requirements.

Duhr said that without fulfilling those commitments Bosnia could not count on the launching of stabilisation and association negotiations despite the fact that the EU wanted to see Bosnia start drawing closer as soon as possible.

The High Representative in Bosnia, Paddy Ashdown, briefed the EU delegation about the situation in the country. He told the press Belgrade should not have the illusion that it had done enough in terms of cooperation with the Hague tribunal.

Ashdown said Serbia and Montenegro must continue and complete the process of cooperation with the Hague tribunal because it was a condition to complete negotiations with the EU.
