THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, May 6 (Hina) - The Hague war crimes tribunal on Friday granted a provisional release request by Bosnian army chief of staff General Rasim Delic, who is accused of crimes committed in Bosnia-Herzegovina by Mujahedeen from Islamic countries.

The request was approved by a trial chamber presided by Judge Patrick Robinson, the UN court said in Friday's press release.

Delic surrendered to the tribunal on February 28 and his defence lodged the request for release pending trial on April 1.

He is charged with four counts of violations of the laws and customs of war for the killing of 35-40 Bosnian Croat civilians and soldiers captured in a June 1993 Bosnian army attack on the village of Maline, the September 1995 killing of more than 60 Serbs captured in the village of Vozuca, the killing and abuse of Serb detainees in Kamenica, a Bosnian army camp, and for the raping of three Serb women in the same camp.

Delic is charged on command responsibility. The crimes were committed by Bosnian army members from Islamic countries who during the 1992-5 Bosnian war fought in the El Mujaheed unit, which was part of the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina Third Corps.

Delic was indicted because he failed to punish the perpetrators although he had been informed about the crimes on time.
