ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - Two Croatian police officers will take part in the UN peace mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Officers Kornelia Jakupec and Davor Javorski will leave on Thursday and they will be the first Croatian police officers to take part in a UN peace mission in the region of the former Yugoslavia. The two officers, who will be in charge of forensics and field training, are expected to stay in Kosovo for a year.

UNMIK is different from other UN civil missions because its primary task is not to monitor but to implement laws, Croatian Assistant Foreign and European Integration Minister Filip Dragovic told reporters.

Members of the Croatian police are taking part in another two UN civil missions -- in East Timor and in Cyprus where Croatia is the only country with a military and a civil component. Two Croatian policemen are in a peace mission in Afghanistan but as part of the NATO-led peace mission.
